How to follow up LinkedIn profile visitors and turn views into conversations
Someone who viewed your LinkedIn profile has already shown some interest in you. Check your viewers every day or two and send the right ones a short note that doesn’t pitch. Do it by hand in about 3 minutes each, or automatically with LinkedClient’s Profile visitors feature.

To follow up LinkedIn profile visitors, check your viewers list every day or two and skip anyone who isn’t a fit. Send the rest a short connection note, or a message if you’re already connected, that starts a conversation instead of pitching. By hand, that takes about 2 to 3 minutes per visitor. LinkedClient’s Profile visitors feature does it for you. It checks your visitors regularly, sends a connection request to every new visitor you’re not connected with, sends your saved messages and hands interested people over to you.
Why are LinkedIn profile visitors warm leads?
LinkedIn profile visitors outreach is the habit of following up with people who viewed your profile. It works for a simple reason: a visitor chose to click on your name. Most cold outreach starts with a stranger. A visitor has at least looked at who you are and what you do.
Visits rarely happen at random. People usually click through after something: your post in their feed, your comment under someone else’s post, a connection request, or a search for what you offer. That gives you a natural reason to say hello. It also puts timing on your side, because you write while your name is still fresh in their mind.
Not every visitor is a buyer, though. Your list will also include:
- Recruiters and job seekers.
- Competitors checking what you’re up to.
- Colleagues, friends and people you already talk to.
- People browsing in private mode. They appear without a name, so you can’t follow them up.
So treat a visitor as a warm starting point, not a hot lead. The goal of your first note is a conversation, not a meeting.
How do you follow up LinkedIn profile visitors by hand?
You don’t need any tool for this. You need a list, a few minutes and the discipline to do it every week.
Where to see who viewed your LinkedIn profile
Open your LinkedIn profile and click the profile views count in the Analytics section. That opens your list of recent viewers. LinkedIn shows basic (free) accounts a more limited list than Premium accounts, so check often if you’re on a free account.
Check and sort your visitors
Open your viewers list every day or two. Skip recruiters, competitors, people you already talk to and anyone outside the group you sell to. About 5 minutes.
Write one short note
Read their headline and latest post first. Then send a connection request with a note, or a message if you’re already connected. About 2 to 3 minutes per person.
Track it and follow up once
Log name, date and status in a spreadsheet. If they accept but don’t reply, send one friendly follow-up a few days later. Then let it go.
How long does it take?
Budget about 3 minutes per relevant visitor, plus 5 minutes each time you check the list. With 10 relevant visitors a week and three checks, that’s roughly 45 minutes a week.
The work itself is easy. The hard part is doing it every single week. A note sent two weeks after the visit has lost its context. On a free account, the visitor may also have dropped off your list by then.

What should you write to a profile visitor?
Keep it short, personal and free of pitches. A good note does three things. It shows you looked at them, it gives one reason to connect, and it asks for nothing big.
Here are three message templates for profile visitors. They are examples to adapt, not scripts to paste. Replace everything in brackets and write the way you talk.
They probably saw your post
“Hi [Anna], I think my post on [topic] may have brought you here. I saw you’re working on [something from their profile] at [company]. Would be good to connect.”
Why it works: it gives the visit a reason and makes the note about them.
No obvious reason for the visit
“Hi [Jonas], thanks for stopping by my profile. We both work with [type of company] in [region], so I thought I’d say hello. Happy to connect.”
Why it works: it’s light and honest, and there is nothing to say no to.
You’re already connected
“Hi [Sara], good to see your name again. How did [the launch, hire or project they posted about] go? I’d like to hear what you learned.”
Why it works: it restarts the conversation with a real question, not an offer.
When someone accepts, wait for a reply, or send one follow-up that asks about their work. Talk about what you do when they ask, or when the conversation gets there on its own.
How does LinkedClient follow up profile visitors for you?
LinkedClient is software that books sales meetings for you. Its AI sales assistant, Elsie, researches the people you want to reach, writes to them on LinkedIn and email, follows up and puts meetings in your calendar. Profile visitors is one of its 97 features. It runs the routine above without you opening the viewers list.
Visitor checks
LinkedClient regularly checks who viewed your LinkedIn profile, so new visitors don’t slip past.
A request to every new visitor
Every new visitor you’re not connected with gets a connection request from your own profile.
Saved messages
You save messages for visitors you already know and for visitors who accept your request, and they go out for you.
Handed over when interested
When a visitor shows interest, the conversation is handed over to you.
Results and history
See new visitors, requests, messages, acceptances and skipped visitors in one place.
You set a daily limit for every action, and Elsie only sends within your working hours. Visitor results also appear in your statistics, next to your likes and comments results. LinkedClient works with a regular LinkedIn account, so no Sales Navigator or Premium is needed.
Profile visitors pairs well with likes and comments. When you engage with people’s posts, some of them click through to your profile, and that visit becomes your next opening. Read how to warm up prospects with likes and comments, or see all 97 features.
Who doesn’t need it
If you get a handful of relevant visitors a week and like writing the notes yourself, the manual routine works well and costs nothing. LinkedClient makes sense when visitors are one part of a bigger job: finding people, writing to them, answering replies and booking meetings. Plans start at €199 per user per month billed annually, excl. VAT, and every plan includes all 97 features. See pricing.
What should you avoid when you message LinkedIn profile viewers?
- Pitching in the first note. A visit is curiosity, not a request for a demo. Lead with them, not your offer.
- Making the visit the whole message. “I saw you viewed my profile” on its own can feel like being watched. Mention it lightly, or not at all.
- Messaging everyone. Recruiters, competitors and job seekers don’t want your note, and every request you send counts toward LinkedIn’s limits.
- Sending too many requests. LinkedIn caps how many invitations you can send and shows an “Invitation limit reached” message when you go over. Spread your requests across the week.
- Long, templated notes. If a note could go to anyone, it reads that way.
- Chasing. One friendly follow-up is enough. A second unanswered message rarely helps.
If you automate this, keep the same rules. Elsie works within LinkedIn’s daily limits. You set a daily limit for every action, she only sends within your working hours, and you can approve every message before it goes out. Tricky cases are passed to you. No tool can promise zero risk on LinkedIn, so keep volumes reasonable and notes personal.
What results do LinkedClient customers get?
These numbers are for LinkedClient as a whole, not for profile visitor follow-up alone.
“We can pinpoint the people we want to contact and actually get meetings with them automatically.”

Book a 30-min demoHow do I see who viewed my LinkedIn profile?
Open your LinkedIn profile and click the profile views count in the Analytics section. LinkedIn shows basic (free) accounts a more limited list than Premium accounts, and people who browse in private mode appear without their name.
Should I message people who viewed my LinkedIn profile?
Yes, if they fit the people you want to reach. A profile view shows some interest, so a short, friendly note that starts a conversation works better than a pitch. Skip recruiters, competitors and job seekers.
Is it creepy to say “I saw you viewed my profile”?
It can feel that way if the visit is the whole message. Mention it lightly, or start from something on their profile or a post of yours they may have read. Keep the note about them, not about the visit.
How many profile visitors can I contact per day?
Stay well within LinkedIn’s limits. LinkedIn caps how many invitations you can send and shows an “Invitation limit reached” message when you go over. In LinkedClient you set a daily limit for every action, and Elsie only sends within your working hours.
Can LinkedClient follow up LinkedIn profile visitors automatically?
Yes. LinkedClient regularly checks who viewed your LinkedIn profile and sends a connection request to every new visitor you’re not connected with. Visitors you know, and those who accept, get your saved messages, and anyone interested is handed over to you.
Is Profile visitors included in every LinkedClient plan?
Yes. Every LinkedClient plan includes all 97 features, Profile visitors among them. Plans start at €199 per user per month billed annually, or €249 billed monthly, excl. VAT.
